I am not aware of it being looked upon as a defeat. The union did lose lives which is unfortunate, but it was a crucial victory in ending the war. The one negative aspect, was that the union did not finish off Lee at that point.

Grant had his opposition and Lee had his. We lost so many soldiers on Gettysburg soil. Brother against brother. Friends that were once was …was no more during the Civil War.Grant became President and Lee well…you know the story. The Civil War was a turning point for America we may have lost thousands upon thousands but they all believed in fighting for what they believed in. The North won the War for Freedom and what Lincoln felt so strongly about and what was right for America and it’s people.
