		<description>Simply put: then Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, of the 20th Maine, led his men in holding the extreme left flank against a brutal Confederate attack at Little Round Top, on the second day of Gettysburg (2 July 1863).
Had the 20th Maine not held, Gettysburg would have been a Confederate victory and Lincoln would have been easily exposed to a direct assault on Washington DC.</description>
