The was some fighting near Appomattox Court House after Richmond fell and what was left of Lee’s Army of Nth VA was moving backwards away from Richmond.
When Lee realized he was virtually surrounded and very outnumbered, plus his soldiers had no rations, supplies, almost no ammunition and were starving; Lee offered to surrender. By this time his proud army had been reduced to less than 27,000 men, that amounted to half of the number of the men he lost at Gettysburg.
Despite Lees surrender of the Army of Nth VA the Army of the Tennessee still fought on for a short time afterward.

Appomattox was not the location of a battle. It’s where Lee surrendered to Grant.
