I just dont understand it!
I came up with this as a rewrite:
Our country began 87 years ago as an experiment in freedom and equality.
Today we’re in the middle of a civil war, and we must dedicate a cemetery to those soldiers who died in battle.
To be honest with you, we are not worthy of consecrating this ground, which has already been consecrated by the dead. We must remember those brave soldiers always, and we must continue their work. We must struggle to ensure that a people’s government will last.
BUT ITS TOO SHORT and Does not sound smart 
can you add to it …or change it…or do a rewrite of your own please.
